stevie zita down n out... single cover

Single: Stevie Zita – down n out…

Zita returns with a new single capturing the suddenness of ennui and despair in soaring and serendipitous music.

Stevie Zita is a friend and a pal of the blog, and when he drops a new banger, chances are we’re going to boost it. This is “down n out…”, and yes, the title does include the ellipsis in order to convey feelings of hesitation, anxiety, trepidation, and general ennui. When speaking of this song, you must include the ellipsis in your tone of speech, lest Zita chide you. (He’ll probably be chill, actually, but you never know.)

Zita has a way of capturing live emotion in his music, abiding by a “make whatever in the moment” philosophy which traps the passion before it has a chance to escape. On “down n out…”, Zita sings of despondency over echoing guitars and a beat that reminds me a bit of a modern-day U2 track. Look, I like U2, okay? When Bono isn’t pretending to be one of his characters, his voice carries a lot of energy and emotion. Zita has no such characters, and therefore it’s all heart. I do hope Zita doesn’t mind the comparison of voices, but I mean it as a compliment.

A brief look at Zita’s Instagram shows that as of writing this, he just recently celebrated his 35th birthday, spending the time with his family. You might wonder how a guy like Zita – who looks so happy – could write a song as steeped in melancholy as “down n out…”. You must remember that music contains multitudes, as do humans. And of course, like a burst of creativity, despair can strike when you least expect it. Sometimes the two go hand in hand, and it leads to incredible work.

Please enjoy “down n out…” below.
