Single: Andrew Brethour – Same Reaction

Oftentimes, I feel a bit stuck in what I listen to. Day in, day out, it can sometimes feel like I only listen to the same three bands, so it’s always delightful to add another artist to my repertoire, and upon listening to Andrew Brethour’s newest release ‘Same Reaction’, I can confidently say that he’s firmly nestled himself into one of the coveted spots.

Following along from previous tracks including ‘Same Old Thing’ and‘Poisonous Girl’, ‘Same Reaction’ is more gentle and jaunty, like a Summer’s breeze on a warm day. Opening up with the strumming of acoustic guitars, every part of the song feels delicate and well thought-out, and shows that there’s no denying the fact that Brethour is a fine musician.

Throughout its three-minute runtime, it doesn’t change much in terms of melody or beat, which is nice. Sometimes, you just need a calmer song to bring you back down to Earth, and this tune does just that. Although, don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely not repetitive. There are elements of change, especially with the strumming becoming heavier near the middle, but it’s not all-consuming, which can happen from time to time with other songs.

Acting as a breath of fresh air in the overpopulated world of music, Andrew Brethour’s ‘Same Reaction’ is a stunner of a single and leaves me feeling excited to see where the young musician chooses to go next.
