EP: Sisters – Bite

Formed in 2024 but conceptualised years before, Sisters is a half-American / half-British dreamy, poetic, weepy rock band based in Liverpool. Already getting media attention & swiftly building their reputation on stage, their debut EP ‘Bite’ is already here.

‘Bite’ – A warm, open sound with a strong groove. Lead singer Jane Kero’s vocal has a pure tone and a silky, smooth, expressive delivery. The song rises and falls like the tide. There’s a restraint that feels like the band is holding something back – until it all erupts in the final section.

‘I can’t see’ – Great rolling energy and a simple arrangement. This one really got my head bobbing, and I loved the vocal melody, which flutters around like a butterfly in the wind. A track with strong contrasts – at first it feels light and airy, but the teeth come out as it gets nicely crunchy and heavy.

‘Weird Angel’ – There’s a wonderfully evocative intro which sets the scene, and a building tension – it feels like the song could pounce at any moment. And pounce it does! Things are pushed right to the edge, which gives the track an intense vibrance. The guitars sound savage and immense.

‘Sweetness Of Things’ –  James’ drums sound great here as they explode and crack. The guitars lurch from intricate and delicate to a devastating wall of distortion. Once again, the vocal melody manages a fluid tension and is full of movement – the whole thing has an unpredictability which I really liked.

‘Creature’ – By this stage, I knew that the opening calm wouldn’t last, so I was ready for the raging storm when it arrived. The vocal is so expressive here – Jane cries and yelps like the track’s title suggests.

‘You’re A Genius’ – The EP closer allows us to catch our breath…at first. Lush backing vocals give the song extra depth, and the shuffling beat is held back a little as the main vocal is pushed right to the front. A fittingly emotional and powerful track to finish the EP.

I loved the powerful variety in ‘Bite’. The band show they can handle light, delicate moments as well as darker, heavier stuff. The guitars crush everything in their path, snarling and biting like a pack of rabid dogs. The vocal melodies are catchy but have a complex vulnerability, too.

I found I wanted to immediately replay the songs to relive the excitement of discovery. I think you will too.
