EP: Amid the Old Wounds – Anticipating You.

‘Songs stripped down to their soul, a few guitar strums and picks and a voice trying to put into words what needs to be said. An introvert all by himself, singing to a campfire. Yet, you are invited to sit down and have a drink, knowing whatever it is you are feeling, you are not alone.’

I worked on a lot of electropop last week in the studio, and listening to ‘Anticipating You.’ by Amid the Old Wounds is a breath of fresh air.

A well-recorded guitar and a well-recorded voice, with minimum processing. The closest thing to experiencing the artist’s music performed live in the room. This brings all the attention to the lyrics. For a person who usually drifts away from the lyrics, as I am highly focused on the music, this works wonders.

These songs are poems and short stories, with a sense of melancholy permeating the entire EP. It feels to me like this is for all the dreamers, the shy ones, the ones who create stories about the things they couldn’t bring themselves to say, about how things could have played out, about what the object of their affection’s character, personality, and feelings are.

It’s about doubting yourself, being reluctant to share your own feelings, and coming from a very fragile and introspective place when it comes to love, romance and human relationships.

A sincere piece of work, and very brave to be that exposed as an artist, especially if, as a person, you are on the introverted side, but then again, many artists find that their voice is much stronger when writing and singing than when having to speak their mind and their affection!
