Single: Tape Trash – We Will Collide

Hailing from Oslo, Norway, alt. rock outfit Tape Trash blends elements of shoegaze, emo and punk together on their newest single, We Will Collide. From the song’s reverb-drenched and drum-heavy intro, the band crafts a sense of impending panic only to get obliterated when we are attacked by the warmth of guitars and bass. This song sounds incredibly full; it has a heaviness to it that is reminiscent of bands like Teenage Wrist and Friko, yet at the same time, maintains an impressive effortlessness associated with genres like slacker rock and dream pop, making it feel natural.

Growing out of his former project, Ludvig Moon, Tape Trash is the new adventure by Anders Magnor Killerud, as he is joined by frequent collaborator Kristofer Mathias Staxrud. The duo states that this project is an attempt by them to channel the music that inspired them to pick up instruments in their teenage years, and it really shows. There is an intense energy from this track and its sibling, Since 94, that sets it apart from much of the music that dabbles with shoegaze. Part of that is due to their ability to capture an energetic sense of weight, which is evident in the song’s almost wordless chorus and the punk-tinged bridge.

If you are in the market for some good alt. rock that captures the feeling of sunny days and dream pop, then this is a band you should be bumping this summer. It’s also a perfect time to get familiar with their back catalogue so you can prepare for their sophomore album dropping sometime this fall on Tiny Engines.
