With a sonic palette – at least on this track – that’s clearly heavily indebted to the 1980s – from New Order to INXS to The Waterboys – the new tune from Stroud duo Wings Of Desire (yes, named after the Wim Wenders film) is absolutely massive.
Composed of husband and wife duo James Taylor and Chloe Little (formerly of South London-based INHEAVEN), the band have been around since 2022. After releasing a string of singles over the years (and collating several of them as well as some unreleased songs into their sole album thus far – 2023’s compilation Life Is Infinite), they have been hard at work in 2026, releasing a single each month.
April’s single is a belter. Take Snow Patrol’s undeniable pop sensibilities and apply the gargantuan musical vision of The Killers, add a dash of Jesus & Mary Chain style fuzz and recruit a chanteuse like Hope Sandoval to share vocal duties, and you’re somewhere in the right ballpark. It’s ambitious stuff, for sure, but it’s a beguiling blend that works ever so well.
Having garnered support from BBC Introducing, the rest of the year looks bright for this smitten, super-stylish pairing (who are soon to become a three-piece by welcoming their first child!).
