Album: Tired Moons – Hauntology

“Hauntology is the debut release from Tired Moons, the side project of Ian Chandler (who also makes music as Watercolor).

Written and recorded over the winter of 2023/2024, Hauntology is a fittingly icy record that combines abstract lyrical vignettes with moody instrumentals. The album’s ten melancholy tracks are tinged with varying amounts of synthpop, slowcore, goth, indie rock, ambient, and even video game soundtracks. Chilled-out synths, mechanical beats, and gauzy vocals carry the listener past scenes of dimly lit motels, midnight forests, and old tombs.

With its slow-burning, cinematic sound that perfectly accompanies long winter nights, the record will feel right at home for fans of Cemeteries (the artist), cemeteries (the places), Ruby Haunt, and Drowse. Hauntology is a soundtrack for a horror film—but the horror film is everyday life.”

We have written about Watercolor a while back and we even featured a track on our compilation so I was excited to receive this submission. It landed a while back in my inbox, but somehow I got to it just now.

Indulge in the dreamy and captivating slowcore music that is perfect for those long evenings when the sun is setting and the sky is adorned with beautiful and colorful lights. It’s the perfect time for reflection – to ponder on the day or week that has gone by, to think about what could have been done differently, and to evaluate your emotions and feelings. Whether you had a challenging day, a blissful one, or are uncertain about the future, this music will help you slow down and calm your mind.

If you’re a fan of analog media, then you’ll be pleased to know that the renowned cassette label Outcast Tape Infirmary has produced a limited number of cassettes featuring this stunning atmospheric album. So, if you’re looking to add this gem to your collection, act fast before they’re all gone.

I’m about to immerse myself in the mesmerizing sounds of Tired Moons and disappear into a world of tranquility.
