I’m checking into Empty Heaven and don’t plan on leaving for a while. The name represents more than just a band; Empty Heaven “is a space in the middle of conscious life and dreaming, where anything goes, whether it’s a song about alien abduction, hypnotic instrumental piano passages, or spoken-word sections revealing painful memories.”
Lennie was released a few days ago and it was created on a cassette four-track machine, which adds to the charm and uniqueness of the overall sonics. If you keep up with the blog, you know that I am currently diving into the depths of Empty Heaven’s discography, and it keeps me going on some of the harder days.
This track paints a very relatable picture of loneliness and the feelings that come with moving somewhere new. Lyrics like, “You go to mail a package / You’re always running errands when you have no friends / but you forget the adage / A mailman smiles, and the sadness ends”, do a great job of sharing that silver lining of humanity when you feel super isolated; even the smallest kindness can change someone’s day and make someone feel like they belong.
The cadence of the lyrics is super satisfying and Lennie overall does a fantastic job of showcasing the flexibility and skills that Empty Heaven brings to the table. As I continue the deep dive into their work, I can’t stress enough that you need to give this music a listen.
Check out Lennie now on Bandcamp, Spotify, and Apple Music now!
