Singles: Agora Sci-Fi – portals & sloppy

Agora Sci-Fi is the captivating music project spearheaded by Nathania Rubin, a multifaceted singer-songwriter, artist, and animator. Nathania not only composes and performs her music but also takes on the creative responsibility of producing all the accompanying artwork and videos. Fans can explore her artistic vision through the videos available on her dedicated YouTube channel.

Nathania has collaborated with some notable artists, including one of my personal favorites, Advance Base, who was previously known as Casiotone for the Painfully Alone. She created an enchanting animation for his music video titled The Tooth Fairy, showcasing her talent for visual storytelling.

Her innovative approach to animation has garnered significant international acclaim. Notably, her prior animated short, Crowded, premiered at the prestigious DOK Leipzig festival and went on to win the Grand Jury Prize for Short Animation at the Seattle International Film Festival. Furthermore, it was honored as one of only 84 animated shorts that qualified for consideration at the 2021 Academy Awards. Nathania’s work has been showcased in numerous prestigious festivals, including Fest Anca in Slovakia, which is renowned as one of the leading animation film festivals in Eastern Europe.

Currently, Nathania holds a position as an art professor in the Midwest, and her upcoming project marks her debut as a solo artist. She is set to release an EP titled Finding It Hard to Explain Something so Obvious, which will feature five songs and is expected to drop in early summer. The music of Agora Sci-Fi intricately weaves together the perspectives of an animated character navigating a capitalist dystopia and Nathania’s own insights and experiences. I learned about her project through the press release associated with her single Portals. The release described Portals as a poignant exploration of the profound realization that one may never see a beloved person again. It also delves into the metaphysical spaces, such as dreams, where we maintain a connection to those we can no longer see.

When I first came across her single Sloppy, I must admit that it didn’t initially resonate with me. However, upon revisiting the track, I found myself captivated, realizing that I had overlooked a true gem. Nathania showcases not only remarkable skills as an animator but also excels as a talented songwriter. I genuinely appreciate the conceptual depth she brings to her music. Her work transcends the standard lo-fi dreamy indie rock that we occasionally feature on our blog; it conveys a meaningful message and serves as a powerful artistic expression.

I have been thoroughly enjoying Nathania’s music, and I am eagerly anticipating the full EP’s release. According to the information I received, there will undoubtedly be more engaging videos to look forward to. I wholeheartedly recommend not only listening to her songs but also watching the accompanying videos and exploring the beautiful music from Advance Base. A true feast for the senses awaits!
