“Yasu Cub is an indie rock band currently active in Tokyo with roots in both the U.S. and Japan. Originally a solo project by Jacob Oki Ahearn when he wrote/recorded album, “Highways,” in San Francisco (late 2019/early 2020), Yasu Cub expanded membership–Dennis Sullivan (drums), Yasuhiro Soda (lead guitar), Shintaro Kimura (bass)– after relocating to Japan and incorporating elements of dream pop/shoegaze in his song-writing reflecting a change in environment.
In June of 2023, Yasu Cub went on a national tour (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto) opening for American indie rock/dream pop band, In The Valley Below.
EP, “Elevator,” will be released in February of 2024.“
This is probably my favorite discovery from Japan this year. Even though the band has roots in the USA, I am excited to get some dreamy indie rock vibes from Japan. I have been listening to the single over and over. It has been out for some time, but it has just landed in my submissions inbox. I am really excited about the new EP and cannot wait to hear it once it is out.
This is exactly the kind of music I would like to discover in Japan or any other Asian country.
Such a great track and I still cannot get over how great it is. I am so surprised they have so few listeners on Spotify.
