Single: ballsy – Person

Ballsy is the new solo venture of Caveboy’s synth-bassist Isabelle Banos. Her single “Person”, like the rest of her music, is self-produced (and very well so!) and guitar-centric.

Straight off the bat, I am thinking of The Smashing Pumpkins and a tiny bit of Nirvana.

And then boom! The chorus comes in, which is more synth-like, carrying a nice nostalgic feeling that is very 90s but does not sound dated at all. Could easily be a song used in Stranger Things if you get my meaning.

You know how when you’re young you can look up to someone, or think that their very existence is very cool, but eventually, you realise they are just human like you, and it was the filter of your own youth that created that perception in the first place? This is what I get from this song, wrapped in a nice dreamy sound that reminds me of pre-internet teenage days of just exploring your block and your neighbourhood until the sun goes down.
