wavves x say anything cherry soda album cover

Single: Wavves x Say Anything – Deathx1k

Indie legends Wavves and Say Anything combine their beachy and pop punk sensibilities for a ripping lead single from their upcoming album collaboration.

Imagine seeing the names “Wavves” and “Say Anything” associated with “new music” in the year 2026! Imagine seeing those names on the same release! These two acts were titans of the 2000s blog rock scene, but now they’ve joined forces for a new album titled Cherry Soda, which comes out on September 18th. The first refreshing taste of this collaboration is the single “Deathx1k”, along with its fun clay-mation music video.

Wavves and Say Anything have crossed paths many times over the years and had an equal appreciation for each other’s work. So a collaboration was in order, with Wavves’ Nathan Williams wondering what a album would sound like with Say Anything’s early-2000s mall-rock sensibilities. Say Anything’s Max Bemis, who has been a fan of Wavves, brings that punk fire on the new single, but there is still a sun-kissed element to the track from Williams’s contributions.

The result of these two bands mixing together is a modern-day rock classic, one that not only makes you wonder where the heck these bands have been, but also makes you happy that they’ve still got it. The upcoming album has nine other tracks, and I’m looking forward to hearing how else they’ll bring each band’s classic sound together.

And yes, the lyrics are a bit bleak, and it’s somewhat on par for these two bands to include the word “death” in their lead single’s title. But would you expect anything else from these two bands, and would you expect them to not go as hard as possible?

Take a look at the music video for “Deathx1k” below.
