Single: Twirlies – Wait until tomorrow

Norwegian trio Twirlies’ new single Wait Until Tomorrow is a nostalgic embrace – evoking a sort of folk-pop, 60s-inspired song-craft that danced around the edges of popularity in the late 90s, but that’s found a new and welcome home in their safe hands.

It’s beautifully realised and though polished in production, is possessed of an easy and comforting charm where vocals interplay with wistful grace and poise. Simple acoustic guitar patterns are wrapped in gentle keys that hum with memory-tugging warmth, and everything feels blanketed with a sense of understated yearning.  It’s lovely.

The Fredrikstad-hailing group consisting of Christoffer, Sara and Sigurd first came together during a silkscreen printing course- and there is something curiously visual about the artful, vintage-pop sound world that they summon. I can’t help but recall the sort of radio-friendly romantic folk-pop that Sixpence None The Richer made ubiquitous for that brief window of time in 97/98.  Wait Until Tomorrow is certainly undeniably easy on the ear, comforting and familiar, but with enough of its own sense of self to draw the listener in.

Released on 12th September, it’s already reaching welcoming and approving ears. Let yours be the next ones to welcome them in.
