“abducted (by aliens)”, the new single from secret sibling, is about being abducted by aliens, but it doesn’t feel like a joke or a gimmick. The chords twist in odd directions right from the start, and a fuzzy, dreamy layer of sound gives the whole thing a floaty and out of this world feel.
The voice is the heart of the song. soft, close, and soaked in reverb, it pulls you in even while everything else feels a little unfamiliar. The words are simple, but vivid too, leading you somewhere one line at a time.
The drums stay in the background, keeping the beat without pushing too hard. A little more presence from them would’ve given the song some extra weight. But the mix itself is crisp, clean, and well done, especially the fusion of all the instrumental tracks.
The best part comes near the end, when the sci-fi sounds and woodwinds come in for a solo that feels like the song is finally breathing out, making it big, eerie, and moving.
It’s a good taste of what the artist calls a sad song that sounds happy. The full album is out October 16th, and this song makes it worth looking forward to.
