Single: Tuxis Giant – Silver Cup

Despite its title, You Won’t Remember This is shaping up to be unforgettable. On “Silver Cup,” Tuxis Giant gets completely honest in a way that feels both raw and necessary. Matt O’Connor’s lyrics carry a depth that captures the strange mix of euphoria and ache that comes with exploring gender and identity behind closed doors. The instrumental is morose and downbeat, almost like a sigh, but perfect for the emotion it conveys. I keep coming back to the line “I’ve tried but one day I’m gonna cheat nature and hit the other side”—it’s filled with longing, regret, and something close to defiance.

What really moves me is how much emotion O’Connor displays in looking back, there is a slight disdain, grace and love. There’s regret for who they could’ve been, yes, but also hope for who they are becoming. That blend of sorrow and hope lingers long after the song ends. If “Silver Cup” and earlier singles like “Last Laugh” and “Huey” are any indication, this is going to be a record that stays with you, one that you will remember, despite the proclamation of the title.
