Seattle-based tommy eliot (they/them) advertises their music as “Emerald City bubblegrunge” on their Spotify profile, which succinctly describes the musical element of their new single “temporary space”. Blending roaring distorted guitars with the sparkling synths and major chord progressions of power pop, tommy’s new track explores escapism, or at least all possible means of escaping from uncomfortable places, even if it’s just for a little while. It’s two minutes of straightforward attitude from a budding artist in Capitol Hill’s queer music scene. Lyrical gem: “Been scrolling through my phone as if I’m in a brand new world/Been grinding on my teeth, the keratin won’t make me full.”
