Tiger Beach is an indie rock group from Raleigh, North Carolina, and they label themselves as a split between lo-fi dream pop and psych surf rock. They described this track as a slow burner and said we should give it more time, and I could not agree more. I had to revisit multiple times before I could actually get hooked on it.
This one is definitely more toward psychdeliec or surf rock. The guitar theme repeats, with fast-paced drumming that draws inspiration from post-punk (at least that is what I felt). It builds to a climax at the end of the song, with a drop that shifts the song to a quieter theme.
The melody is almost making you feel like the climax will come soon, but it will take more than 4 minutes for the drop to appear. I was expecting the melody to develop differently and not take 4 minutes to unfold. Still, this surprise made the song even more interesting. I have lately been enjoying when songs take unexpected turns.
Tiger Beach created an intriguing track that will not leave you untouched. I have been listening to it on repeat and have been pulled in over and over. I really enjoyed how a repetitive theme can create such a surprising experience.
