Single: Crab – Hair

Crab are like a musical juggernaut, accelerating into a glorious collision of melody and mayhem.

Crab seems to be a band of few words. Even though we’ve covered them a bit, after looking around at their socials (and the various places where one can find their music), I’ve only still managed to glean that they are an indie-rock band from New York, and their favourite mantra is ‘Magic Is Real’.

I guess that slight air of mystery means the music does the talking, so let’s get down to it!

‘Hair’ is the 4th track the band have released so far this year, and it’s about the emotional strife of a difficult bump in a relationship.

The track starts with a hook that is repeated almost constantly throughout the song. It becomes hypnotic, like some ancient chant.

It’s a dense sound that leaves no room to breathe: The musical equivalent of turning up the contrast and brightness and sitting with your face pressed against the screen.

The track has layer upon intense layer – all drenched in warm treacle – and that repeating motif will really stick in your mind:

“It’s the wind in your hair
It’s the wear on your shoes
You can run, run all night
But there’s nothing for you to lose”

I loved the raw energy of “Hair” and the full immersive force of the band. Crab are like a musical juggernaut, accelerating into a glorious collision of melody and mayhem. Take a listen to “Hair” below.
