Single: The New Mourning – I’ll Take My Time

Do you like slowcore? Do you like repeating musical phrases that continue to build in intensity as the song progresses? Do you like the Fender Bass VI guitar? If so, you will enjoy the new single from The New Mourning, titled “I’ll Take My Time”.

Thomas Pronai, the founder of The New Mourning, runs a recording studio in Austria and has also had experience playing in live bands throughout his life. He wanted to take the no-frills sound of live performance and capture it on tape. Hence, he began The New Mourning in 2018, and after two albums and a handful of singles and EPs, Pronai and the rest of the band have excelled in putting intimate and raw performances into recorded form.

“I’ll Take My Time”, for example, is lush with emotion, starting quietly with little but Pronai’s voice and guitars. But the song builds, adding more soaring guitars, bass, and drums, doing little to overload the senses but just enough to tug at the heart. The bass and lower tones of the Bass VI add to the mellow mood of the song as well. The song has the vibe of a band jamming live on a thought, where Pronai picked up the guitar and began singing, and the whole band joined in to gel around his idea, feeling the vibe he was putting out.

This is a track for deep thought in a darkened room, especially one where you can imagine a small crowd and a little stage where The New Mourning has started to play. Take a listen to “I’ll Take My Time” when the sun starts to go down.
