There is something intrinsic about Park Safety, the latest single from Glasgow-based Swiss Portrait, that implies a sense of motion. The rhythmic, upbeat chords and melody hit me from the jump, lending me energy during an unusually depressive day. The dream pop vibes are lovely in this track, and the steady bass and soft, lush vocals seem like an invitation to travel somewhere new, whether in the mind or on the road.
Lyrically, there is a wistful sadness in both of the verses, one alluding to getting caught in the rain, and the other to some kind of farewell between friends. “I’m soaked through // Drowned in my own skin” felt especially evocative to me, both of being physically wet, as well as a sense of being emotionally present during a difficult moment.
This is the kind of song where I was drawn in right away, and it feels like the perfect song to vibe out to while traveling in some fashion. Despite being a fairly minimal track, there’s a lot captured here. I felt a sense of transient beauty, one that is both immersive and fleeting. All in all, it’s a wonderful song, and one that is well worth checking out, as well as keeping an eye out for the full EP from Swiss Portraits to come out in September.
