Open the door and discover the latest offering from Witchshifter. Following along from their debut single ‘Whore Disease’ released earlier this year, the Berlin band strike again with ‘Apt 213’. Drawing inspiration from one of the most chilling true crime stories in modern history, the track is equally dark and delightful.
In my opinion, the guitars are what drive the track forward. They’re jangly and compelling with powerful riffs that showcase just how far they have come since their last release. Now, that’s not to say that the other instruments don’t play their part, because they absolutely do. The drums help to cut through the chaos of the song while the synths add that classic touch of noise rock, which the band play upon expertly.
The vocals are slightly obscured by the rest of the song, which works perfectly in the band’s favour as it gives the track a further layer of mystery, enhancing the darker vibe that the song aims to achieve.
The ending is a simply sublime way to end the song. Distorted and wailing, the sponge is addictive from the first note to the last and Witchshifter excellently prove that post-punk is alive and kicking.
