Single: Pine Barons – LILO

Part Heaven Is A Halfpipe (how’s that for a throwback?!) and part Belle & Sebastian, the newest tune from indie-pop veteran Pine Barons – LILO – is an amalgamation of many elements.

It’s as cute and twee as the day is long – with the spacious, luscious electronic-indie/pop vibes tickling all the right notes and proving a much-needed dopamine hit. But it’s also got a lot more going on.

Yes, it’s perfectly balanced and incredibly catchy – this is a pop song at heart – but it also has a quiet chaos about it (listen out for the buzzsaw guitars towards the end, which are pretty low in the mix, and lyrics that seem to be in multiple languages). That’s something you don’t often get.

In conclusion, LILO is an ambitious and artistic triumph. If it’s a sign of what’s to come from frontperson and multi-instrumentalist KC Abrams, then the future looks very bright indeed.
