Single: SSAANN – Echo

Another dreamy single from the Milwaukee group’s upcoming debut album, perfect for disassociation

It’s currently Tuesday, March 3rd when I’m writing this article, and I have felt the mighty need to disassociate from the world for reasons you might understand if you have access to the news. I have found myself staring up at the ceiling, begging the snow and cold to end and the looming threat of oblivion to chill out already.

In times like these, SSAANN’s new single “Echo” comes in handy. Part dream pop, part shoegaze, the band advertises their style as “drifting between a dream and a gaze”, and right now, that sort of spaced-out soundscape feels necessary to lift our ears out from the grating nature of reality. Melissa Simes trades her glistening keys with layers of her angelic voice, and Tommy Behan (drums) and Jake Schneider (guitar) provide the backbeat to give the dreaminess a little drive.

We’ve featured SSAANN quite a bit on the blog over the past several months. Grubby covered the track “Channel (Can’t Handle)” back in September, Filip wrote about “Wade” back in November, and just last month, Grizzly had nice things to say about “Above It”. All of these tracks will appear on the Milwaukee-based band’s debut album Higher, which drops on March 27th. You can tell we’re all looking forward to it.

But for now, “Echo” serves as a fine single for the transition from the chill of winter into the warm dewiness of spring, and perhaps the shift from abject terror into blessed calm. Even if that calm remains personal, it’s something.

Take a listen to “Echo” and follow SSAANN below to stay up to date with news about their upcoming album.
