Single: Speckle – Almost Dancing

Fans of indie and alternative rock and garage bands have a new band to check out: Speckle, an Oregon-based duo, is releasing a new album in September, and their first single, “Almost Dancing”, is, to put it simply, a banger. Produced by K Cashion, the track explores the loneliness and feeling of inadequacy of being in a new place.

The single’s lyrics are truly personal and relatable. They touch upon how invisible and out of place one might feel, especially in a big city, and even after trying to feel differently and “dance” as the song says, they never quite feel comfortable enough to let go. The lyrics “I am uncomfortable where the people are, and it does not mean I belong alone” shine a light on the very real struggle of feeling disconnected from people yet not wanting to be alone.

The guitar starts the song off with an incredibly powerful and impactful note. It’s like the opening to a coming-of-age movie, with a captivating and nostalgic vibe. The drums set the tone for the calm energy of the track, the beat holding it all together. The two vocalists’ voices really complement each other, and the choice to keep their joint voices for the chorus adds magic to an already catchy and well-made song.

“Almost Dancing” had me hooked from the start with its raw lyrics and melancholic sound, taking me by the hand and inviting me into its own world. If you like indie bands and that “coming of age” kind of sound, tune in September 1st for the release of their new album, “The Last Good Month” — I know I will.
