Single: Silver Rubbish – Nagisa-Perth

Silver Rubbish is a solo indie pop project of Takumi Inui. He was born into a musical family; his grandfather was a master of Shigin (a form of Japanese poetry recitation), and his parents are musicians. He has been influenced by Japanese producer Takeshi Kobayashi and also has a background in jazz while studying philosophy. He has been active in the Osaka and Tokyo scenes, developing his own sound inspired by 60s and 90s genres, blending into ambient lo-fi sound.

In his latest single, he blends English and Japanese lyrics to create powerful, almost lo-fi hip-hop-infused bedroom pop with a beautiful atmosphere that fosters a space where different nationalities can connect. The short press release accompanies more information about the song. As I enjoyed the vocabulary used, I will share it in full.

“The soundscape incorporates elements of jazz, ambient, and noise. At the same time, the soft resonance of a gut guitar expresses the quiet seaside scenery and the waves of emotion. The origin of this piece lies in the sense of not belonging experienced while living abroad and the resulting overdependence on external validation to fill that void. Confronting those experiences, the song was born as a means to sublimate them through sound.”

Beautifully crafted gentle melody that will take you on a journey and let you forget the outside world for a while so you can just focus on the beauty of music. The song is very captivating, and I really enjoyed the production of this piece. Gentle, but very complex and quite mesmerizing. I got lost in the melody multiple times, and this is what I needed on Friday evening when I was writing this. A great way to wind down after a mentally challenging work week.
