Michael Smyth, previously the songwriter and guitarist for the band Virgins, returns with “Clementine”, yet another single for his ongoing project, Silk. Having previously released three singles in 2025, Silk emphasizes overwhelming, distorted guitar work with rich, deep textures. With this newest single, Silk makes its own style and direction apparent by shaping imperfection and roughness into raw emotion.
“Clementine” is the dreamiest of the band’s released tracks, yet still heavy and passionate. The fuzzy guitars, pounding drums, and charming vocals create a triumphant harmony of noise and depth. The song begins with an explosion of grungy drums and compelling guitars before the vocals quietly approach as they build in the mix. The lead guitar makes for a highlight chorus of introspection and haze, especially when united with Michael Smyth’s unique, mournful vocal style. The track fades with a rhythmic mess of warped and distorted sound.
As the latest track from Silk’s upcoming mini-album Auralux, “Clementine” takes a slightly different approach than Silk’s previous singles. Most notably, it is defined by strong, catchy lead melodies that accompany the band’s usual texture focused approach. This makes for a track with excitement, thoughtfulness, and charm.
Take a dive into this thick composition of noise by listening to “Clementine” below, and follow Silk on their socials for more info on Auralux, out May 7th.
