‘telluride’ feels like a bittersweet balm. The soundscape is dreamy, with gorgeously buzzy guitar riffs, ethereal synths, and mournful vocals. At times, the track sounds like a cousin song of, ‘Even Star Superchager’ by Sparklhorse; a moment that leans more into twee than it’s family member, but still has the brooding undercurrent of work by ruben dumars.
‘telluride’ is an unbelievably catchy track, to the point when between writing this and another piece, I found myself humming it whilst washing some dishes. It is a testament to dumars’ songwriting; remarkably, something that clearly does not suffer despite the artist’s highly prolific output (‘telluride’ is already dumars’ seventeenth single of the year).
If you are a fan of sad indie-pop, laced with all the cosy tropes of the genre, I cannot recommend ruben dumars enough. They are a worthwhile artist to get behind, and you shan’t be lacking in material from them any time soon!
