Single: Puppy Teeth – Black Honey

Founded in March 2023 Puppy Teeth is an Edinburgh based female fronted band composed of singer and rhythm guitarist Anna Trost, singer and lead guitarist Theo Black, bassist Ed Meltzer and drummer Niamh Jordan.

Main genres of the band‘s music include shoegaze, grunge, indierock and influences from psychrock/dark americana.

Great writing influences are Artists/Bands such as Men I trust, Jeff Buckley, Big Thief, Wolf Alice and Deftones.

Puppy Teeth have been playing several venues across Edinburgh and Glasgow such as King tut’s, Sneaky Pete’s and Mash House, to expand their audience and make themselves a name in the scene.

The expansion of Puppy Teeth is now reaching to the rest of the UK with a gig in Cardiff on the 8th of December supporting the local band ‘Dactyl Terra’ and inviting them back to support Puppy Teeth at their own single release Headline on the 14th of December in Edinburgh

The song “Black Honey” was written by Anna Trost, the Front Woman behind Puppy Teeth, recorded and mixed by Ed Meltzer (also Bassist of Puppy Teeth) in Pocketsound Studio in Edinburgh and mastered by Izzy McPhee. It was written about Anna’s frustration towards family/friends/people in her small Hometown growing up back in Germany asking her, when she is getting a “real job” as a comment to her pursuing a career in Music as a Sound Engineer/Musician in the UK.

As a music enthusiast, there’s nothing quite like discovering a new band that’s just starting. And when that band happens to be from one of my favorite places in the world, Scotland, it’s even more exciting. I recently stumbled upon a song that caught my attention from a new band hailing from Edinburgh. The song, in my opinion, is a perfect blend of slowcore, grunge, and shoegaze – a combination that resonates with me on a personal level.

From the very first note, the song had me hooked. The layers of instrumentation were beautifully crafted, creating a mesmerizing and captivating melody. Throughout the track, the melody twisted and turned, leading me on a journey that kept me engaged until the very end.

As I listened, I closed my eyes and let the music wash over me. The song had a dreamy, almost otherworldly quality to it, and it transported me to different places – a true music daydream. Overall, I was thoroughly impressed with this debut from the band and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store for us.
