On their third single, new quartet Pat Faking are in monstrous form. You’ll Find It opens with pounding drums before settling into a virtual wall of sound, dominated by reverberating, distorted guitars and far away, hazy, mirage-like vocals.
It continues in this way – largely unrelenting – for the majority of the song. There is a short period about halfway through where it mellows out a bit before escalating again, but when it escalates, it really does. Thicker, richer, and more abrasive than it was before, the wall is back, bigger and better than ever.
Indebted to bands like DIIV, The Jesus & Mary Chain & My Bloody Valentine, Pat Faking seems to hold their cards pretty close to their chests. The lyrics are obscured throughout by the aforementioned noise, in that classic shoegazey style. Sure, they’re not the first group to utilise this approach, but that, coupled with the fact that their names are never used on social media and they don’t specify anywhere where they’re based, all ends up looking a bit of a shadowy
They gig regularly in New York, New Jersey & Vermont, and we’d wager they are all worth tracking down.
