Single: Nightswim – Autumn Ground

Set Jazzmasters to stun! St Louis shoegaze band Nightswim are back and they are not fucking about. After a line up change and bit of a rebrand, they (re)announce themselves with gusto on new single Autumn Ground.

At over six minutes long, this gives the band plenty of freedom to explore. The earliest part of the song is shimmering shoegaze to the max. A swirling melange of guitars, far-off ghostly vocals, thundering drums and a wall of sound that would give My Bloody Valentine a run for their money.

As the song progresses they take it down a notch and we enter a period of respite at around 02:30. You might call it a bit of a lull, or the calm before the oncoming storm or the quiet in the eye of the hurricane. A beautiful, blissful breath of a moment, before tumbling back down the reverberating, fuzzed-out rabbit hole.

Time spent with Nightswim in each universe is equally lovely and they compliment each other perfectly. The light and the shade, the ying and the yang – both here are absolutely top notch.

We can’t wait to see and hear what comes next.
