Single: Midi Memory – burn all away

Punchy synths and beats, fast-paced melody, and that mix of catchiness with a lot of dark atmosphere.

If you have been around for a while, introducing Cathedral Bells might not be necessary. I still remember the first time I discovered them, and I have written about them multiple times on our blog; they’ve even worked with my favorite artists, like Beach Vacation and Orchid Mantis. Why am I talking about a different band? Midi Memory is an electronic project of Matt Messore of Cathedral Bells. This project draws inspiration from dark wave and synth-pop influences. Suppose it was not obvious from listening ot the track below. Furthermore, the short bio explores:

Messore layers rich analog Roland tones and synthesizers from the 1980s, with driving drum loops, and chorus tinged vocals. Hailing from Central Florida, Messore writes expansive tracks that fill the spectrum with coinciding bright and dark tones. Midi Memory brings cold wave sounds that resonate with those who are passionate about the minimal synth.

Punchy synths and beats, fast-paced melody, and that mix of catchiness with a lot of dark atmosphere. This newest track definitely has the dreamy influence of the main project, mixing it with the post-punk synthwave that’s been so popular these days. I am still clueless as to why there is such a resurgence of this sound, but I have been loving it. Especially this newest track conveys so much energy and atmosphere, and I guess it fits the doleful news that surrounds us every year. I could definitely see this played live in a dark club, the smoking machine creating clouds, and you dancing to the beats and just letting go of yourself in the song. Matt has a talent for making great music, and we will write about another project of his in the next post.
