It’s been 2 years since Mega Infinity released Chaos Magick- an album that felt like a huge step forward in the production of the band’s work while also redefining their sound as a little harder, a little mathy, and full of great technical solos and instrumentals. In my opinion, the band improved on every aspect from the previous album, and I liked where they landed.
Well, it turns out, they hadn’t landed at all. Chaos Magick was a snapshot of a band that was still growing and continuing to evolve its identity. Temperance is their most recent single and is also the first single on a newly announced album to be released in 2026 on Richmond, Virginia’s Say 10 Records, and it is by far the hardest-core/metal-influenced song that Mega Infinity has recorded. Instrumentally and compositionally, this may be the best song they’ve written. I don’t know if it’s the best song, and they have had some amazing guitar and bass solos in other tracks, for sure. This is not meant to diss some really incredible songs- Chaos Moagick and Dude Poisoning are amazing- but this song goes so damn hard, features a terrific trio of horns (Dani Dross, Bex Rose, Andrew Heaton), Mike Diglo’s traditional insane solos on guitar go off, and amazing bass by Gabi. Lead singer and songwriter Michi’s vocals have become a lot more aggressive on this track as well. The tempo and aggression through this song are so damn good.
“Temperance” is not just a total shift away from what has always defined Mega Infinity; the seeds of this have always existed. You can see it in retrospect, but they grew far more aggressively than I ever could have imagined. The lyrical and spiritual themes have always existed through every album and almost every song. This is still absolutely Michi’s lyrics, and the love and style of guitar is absolutely Mike’s flavor. The inclusion of some ska adjacency without ever delving fully into ska has always been present. But the way this goes so damn hard and perfectly is incredible. The world may be going to shit, but at least 2026 is promising a hell of a soundtrack.
