Single: LunAtlas – Vegur Fram á Við

The new single from the Geneva-based quintet LunAtlas is mesmeric, majestic and quite special.

Gently brooding and carefully considered, the new single from Geneva-based quintet LunAtlas, “Vegur Fram á Við”, is all manner of things.

The second track released so far by the band, it’s full of contravening elements. It’s light and shade. Hope and despondency. Hushed as well as epic. It runs the gamut between these opposite ends of the spectrum with an expertise and confidence that seems to belie the group’s relative youth.

“Vegur Fram á Við” (Icelandic for “The Way Forward”) oscillates, ebbs, and flows. The vocals (courtesy of frontwoman Tyona Bugnon) have amazing, hypnotic range and the rhythm section is tight, driving and refined. However, for us, the relationship between the two guitars is the star of the show. The way they intermingle and compliment each other is enchanting and everything they do they do very well. Hats off to the maestros Dan Garcia and Sami Etnatcha.

As the song goes on, Tyona’s vocals come into their own. Catchy and compelling, she keeps the listener captivated with her dulcet tones and grandiose flourishes.

Like a beguiling combination of the scenic lilting beauty of The Cocteau Twins blended with the widescreen ambition of Mercury Rev, this mesmeric, majestic sound is something quite special. We’ll very much look forward to hearing what comes next. Take a listen to “Vegur Fram á Við” below.
