“Always on the lookout for creative forms of expression, writing music turned out to be an essential part of Liz’ life. After studying landscape architecture and being involved in several music projects, Vienna-based songwriter, guitarist, and singer Maria Elisabeth Thornton started her solo-project Liz Metta. For Liz, music is both the result, and an essential part of the process in finding her own identity. Therefore, she has taken an intuitive approach to music. In blending stylistic elements of dream pop, modern psychedelia, indie soul and alternative rock with guitar-based songwriting, Liz creates a world of sound in which listeners can immerse themselves in a self-forgotten way.
She has been performing under her stage name Liz Metta since 2020 and gave early glimpses to her sound when performing live loops at various festival appearances in 2022, including sets at Popfest, Poolbar festival, and Waves Vienna. Her EP ‘Fragile & Strong’ was self-released in 2022 and the singles Vision und Fragile & Strong were played on FM4, radio Wien, Ö1, 88.6, Byte.FM. She was nominated for The New Austrian Sound of Music (NASOM 2023 / 24) as artist in the Pop genre. Her debut album ‘Introspection’ will be released on October 27th on Siluh Records and celebrated at an album release show on October 28th at the Planetarium Vienna.”
I have been a fan of what the Austrian label Siluh Records has been doing for years now. I am glad that submission from their artist came my way and I am so happy to share it. This new track is nice psychedelic dream pop and had some great summer vibes. I am also glad that the artist is doing shows and hopefully, we will see her in Bratislava as well. I missed going to shows, but this summer I went to a super duper DIY show and festival Beseda u Bigbítu and I enjoyed it so much. I have another great local festival Mýšačka in Bratislava in plans and my summer music life will be finally offline! I thought I would not miss shows after Covid, but my love for going to concerts did not change, I am just older and have to be more cautious with my energy levels, but the offline music is still special.
“With its diverse art & music scene, Vienna is a great place to evolve new ideas. In appreciation of this vibrant city, Liz is catching the vibe of Vienna and transcribes it into a spirited alt-pop piece, blending catchy hooks with her distinctive atmospheric guitar sound. The single ‘Vienna’ is about finding one’s own way and Liz’ connection to the place. She especially dedicates this song to her friends. Rather on the dreampop side of the genre, ‘Vienna’ is marching to a different drummer, invites you to dance and comes with a fun vintage style video shot at one of Vienna’s most famous places, the Viennese Prater park.”
Enjoy this new track and I will do my best to share the full album once it is out.
