The new Levi Taschuk’s single “A Kiss” precedes his forthcoming EP “Dyna Dyvest,” set for release on September 4, 2026.
One of the first things to notice when listening to “A Kiss” is Levi’s unconformed vocals. Their dynamism leads the way, painting the canvas atop a sweet, ethereal, and well-constructed instrumental, while frequency-sweeping in a quasi-experimental interpretation, full of breaths, vibratos, and falsettos.
While over-interpretation may sometimes be at fault, taking away the typical pop-song predictability, it blends well within an instrumental full of background detail and production nuances.
Chet Baker, Radiohead, and Nick Drake are said to be Levi’s influences, and they are indeed noted, though for different reasons:
The Jazz notes are clearly highlighted within sudden inflections, moving into riskier territories, and aligning with what Pop music concerns, broadening melodies, and making them more interesting. It, blended with a Radioheadish, more modern, fuller, and production-wise more complex sound, makes “A Kiss” a piece worth exploring with good headphones. Nick Drake’s Folk background is present from the beginning, not only in the acoustic guitar but also in the song’s construction and vocal approach.
Yes, it’s “indie” in the sense indie music is usually labeled. Still, it carries something more in terms of detail and sonic exploration, touching other genres with grace, without being forced.
