“Woman” is a single from Netherlands-based artist la loye. It’s one of 11 tracks from her recent album “sweet dreams, see you tomorrow”. I like to imagine that the album is a soundtrack to someone’s dreams, and then in the morning they would wake up and talk about all these beautiful sounds that were the soundtrack to their dream state.
Imagine what Massive Attack would sound like at their softest. Now add some indie dreaminess into the mix (washy guitars and subtle vocals as well as lovely dryad-of-the-woods style backing harmonies) and you are starting to get to this sound that I was introduced to. I love her vocals, could listen to that voice for hours. There is a softness on everything including the drums and the bass, which as elements are still there but they are just seeing time and adding a soft groove to the song.
The vocals and the guitars are the main thing here, and the structure itself in my opinion plays a big role in the overall feel. The rests in the arrangement are wonderful, as well as the little licks and loops that keep reappearing in the mix.
Overall a great soundtrack to a hazy and slow morning with a cup of coffee, hopefully somewhere in nature.
