Single: Fotoform – This City is Over

Questions of burnout and what it means to be successful permeate “This City is Over”, the opening track from Fotoform’s new album “Grief is a Garden (Forever in Bloom)”. It’s a beautifully layered, ethereal song that blends post-punk and shoegaze into an understated anthem of resilience. The band describes the track as being about “stepping back to reflect… and start listening to the voice within,” as well as being a “call to wake up. . . and question the structures that consume us”. Kim House’s multiple vocals take layers on top of themselves in a way that is almost hypnotic, reinforcing the meditative tone even as the guitars swell and the drums gather momentum. Both upbeat and downcast, “This City is Over” is a rock song for those standing in the ruins and choosing to rebuild.
