“Astromautomata is shimmering dream pop with an upbeat feel just in time for summer. The song is about recognizing dissociative tendencies, illustrated through an almost child-like comparison of feeling like an astronaut floating alone with no feet on the ground, unable to be present in the moment. The lyrics unfold into a manifestation of flight, in this case used as a metaphor for practicing boundaries, mindfulness, and self-protection, expressing the challenging balancing act of forgiveness and letting go of the weight of old wounds while not allowing those who harmed you back into your life.”
I recently covered some of the previous singles, and now I’m excited to cover the latest release by this artist. Those who know my musical preferences are aware of my strong inclination toward bedroom pop, and Kid Tiger’s music occupies the perfect space between bedroom pop and alt-pop. It’s upbeat and refreshing, yet it still maintains that special cozy feeling typical of bedroom pop. While bedroom pop has become more mainstream in recent years, many artists find it difficult to replicate the genuine indie-pop sentiment recorded in the bedroom. As a matter of fact, we’re even putting together a compilation titled “BEDROOM POP IS BACK!” on Z Tapes, and this track would fit right in. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this track and I think it would be a great addition to summery indie pop playlists.
