The new Keyside tune is quintessential Keyside. Jangly guitars, a jaunty rhythm, a thick Scouse accent and, of course, a song that’s impossibly catchy.
At its core, it’s an English indie rock song – recalling The La’s and The Coral -, but there’s also an added layer of psychedelic shimmer that sets this apart.
It trucks jollily along with all the frivolity and whimsy that you’d expect from a song called “Rock My Love,” but just after the midway point in the song, there’s a breakdown and a rebuild. Surprisingly, it feels almost sinister in the atmosphere it creates. Then, all of a sudden, it reverts and reels you back into the land of the psychedelic lovefest, through strawberry fields and marshmallow skies.
We’ll eagerly await news of a debut album, which (as they’ve now been releasing singles and EPs since 2022) must surely be coming soon.
