Conquered or Conquering is the latest single from Portland, OR’s Goodnight House. The track balances a feeling of sunny nostalgia with an energetic lament for the everpresent existential dread that is the world’s shared reality.
Hazy skies glow, sunset reflected off windshields like a kaleidoscope. Windows down, one hand catching the breeze and for a moment you are free, heading home after an endless string of Mondays, fleeting thoughts to keep on driving, no set destination aside from anyplace but here. Brake lights and still air, reminder of reality. Days end only to usher in another; stolen hours squandered on car rides and within white walls, gentle summer evening breezes poorly imitated by the whirr of a ceiling fan. Mockingbirds chirp out their last song of the day, settled into branches of the parking lot forest. Dusk closes in on the darkened stairwell to your door, escape will have to wait until another tomorrow.
