Single: From The Ceiling – Lu Dort

From The Ceiling is an “alt-grunge-indie-gaze or something” band from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada. Sometimes I can relate to that description of music, as I am always struggling to find the right terms to describe the sounds I hear. This newest track is oscillating between emo and alt-rock. The band shared that the inspiration for this track was bands like Dogleg, Free Throw, but they are also compared to Title Fight, Basement, and Turnover. Apparently, the song was written after they performed at the Battle of the Bands that ultimately won us a spot at the Revelree Music Festival. They described the buildup and months of waiting, just for it to be over in a couple of hours.

There is a cool video that was captured from the festival appearance:

The guys from the band seem like cool folks, and I bet their live set was amazing.

The song is quite emotive, and I really enjoyed the energy it creates. Great guitar riffs, a bit of grungegaze, great drumming, and vocals combine to create a perfect song. I have been listening to it on repeat, and it has been growing on me, and has made me want to listen to more from this band. I will share it below so you can listen as well.

At the beginning of October, they released a collection of songs they have made so far, and this new single serves as an addition to it. So if you enjoyed the single, you will enjoy the album as well —it is just as good.

I wished they had shared the lyrics on their Bandcamp page so I could follow along while listening. I wouldn’t miss any words. When it comes to noiser music like shoegaze, grunge, emo, or post-hardcore, I always need lyrics to follow the text.

I am happy to discover another interesting band from Canada, and the music scene out there has been my favorite for years.
