Single: Fleeting Colours – Stay

Montreal-based shoegaze band Fleeting Colours delivers a mesmerizing push-and-pull of sound with their third single, Stay. The track opens with an alluring softness—whispery, nearly indecipherable vocals floating above a surreal haze—before erupting into a wall of swirling guitars and thunderous drums. The dynamics are skillfully executed, with the instrumentation crashing and rising in waves, only to recede into a steady pulse of calming drums and hazy guitar. This ebb and flow create a true soundscape, captivating the listener in layers of texture and movement.

Mixed and mastered by Jeff Zeigler, whose work with Nothing and Swirlies is evident in the track’s depth, “Stay” leans into the heart of classic shoegaze while maintaining a fresh, contemporary feel. The addition of Frown Line’s Annika Devlin on guest vocals enhances its ethereal quality, though her voice—like Seamus Hickey’s—is so delicate that it feels swallowed by the instrumentation. But that’s part of the beauty; it’s the roaring, all-encompassing beat that makes it all the more addictive.
