Single: Feverishh – Empty World

Slow, thick and very, very loud, the new tune from Feverishh is not here to fuck around. Dedicate four and a half minutes of your time and there will be no doubt.

Slow, thick, and very, very loud, the new tune from Feverishh will stop you in your tracks. Less of a song – more of an audible odyssey – Empty World is, unusually, almost paradoxically, unmistakably heavy without feeling particularly dark.

For the most part, it feels celebratory – like fireworks exploding overhead in the clear night sky, surrounded by ones you love and enjoying good times. But around halfway through, it has an almost breezy quality, breaking down and fading in colour, and we’re momentarily in monochromatic melancholy mode. Shortly thereafter, though, the levels are adjusted, and we ramp back up into glorious technicolour that feels even more vivid and brilliant than it did before.

In the final third, the vocals absolutely soar, going higher than they did previously, a little reminiscent of Danish trailblazers Mew and also a bit like fellow Danes The Kissaway Trail.

Only their second single, their sound is absolutely gargantuan when compared to the sum of its parts. Interestingly, their prior track – last year’s camouflage – featured French Horn played by the band’s singer, Maddy Erskine. It’ll be very interesting to see what they experiment with next.

This Fort Collins-based, experimental post-rock threesome is not here to fuck around. Dedicate four and a half minutes of your time to enveloping yourself in this masterwork, and there will be no doubt.
