Single: Dystopia Gently – Chimeras Tonight (Too Mercury)

Dystopia Gently debuts with a queer indie-rock single about the perils of infatuation.

Queer and non-binary UK indie rock artist Dystopia Gently (aka Katherine Evans) is here with their debut single “Chimeras Tonight (Too Mercury).” According to Evans, the self-produced alt-rock single is about the dangers of daydreaming–“both the euphoria and disaster of romantic infatuation.” The song presents itself as a vivid fever dream, which brings about a subtle sense of nostalgia. It’s a whimsical debut driven by Evans’ guitar and airy vocals. Aside from the drums played by the talented Wilf McKenzie, Evans does it all on this song, contributing vocals, electric guitar, bass, and synths.

Ahead of the release, Evans started a crowdfunding campaign to support their dream of releasing music. In their crowdfunder, they said. “Releasing music as an independent musician is really challenging. The market is saturated, and it’s hard to get your music heard if you don’t have a big budget. There’s a real danger that the song I worked so hard to craft could disappear like a drop into the ocean! I think it’s really important that marginalised artists from disadvantaged backgrounds, like me, have a chance to make music and be heard. Please help me get this project off the ground!” You can help support their future releases via Crowdfunder or Bandcamp

The track is accompanied by a colorful and playful video narrating queer love by animator Veronika Neputina. Watch the video here:
