Originally released on his 2021 “collisions” album under his own name of Adam Buynicki, test is a song that – like its author – has been on a bit of a journey. In 2026, he is backed by a full band, Western Massachusetts songwriter Adam Buynicki, now goes by “collisions,” and after a 4-year journey, is now sober. “test” was written as a reflection on a personal relationship that he was involved in whilst he was drinking heavily. After he gave up the booze, the tune was reworked and recorded with a full band.
This new version is extremely spirited. Starting with a distinctly Foo Fighters-esque hard rock vibe blended with an almost Jimmy Eat World-style crispness, and eventually evolving into an emo-tinged pop-punk tune a la New Found Glory, the test is now a full-throttle, heart-on-sleeve thrill ride.
Where the prior version feels rootsier, more reserved and measured in its approach, this new version is much more emotionally lively, frenetic, and desperate in its feeling.
It’s imbued with tons of energy and an abundance of heartfelt emotion and is something you can’t help but scream along to.
The way Buynicki tells it, this is how the song should have sounded all along. Based on what we’ve heard, we’d be hard-pressed to disagree.
