Single: Dip – Light

Dip was founded back in 2021 in Guadalajara, in central Mexico. Since then, the band has released a string of singles and EPs, resulting in a real honing of their craft.

New single Light is a blend of upbeat New Order-style rhythms (both bass and drums are reminiscent of the seminal Manchester post-punk band), Johnny Marr-esque jangly moments, The Cure’s dark gothic tones and textures, and an undeniable shoegaze aesthetic.

It’s quite a formidable concoction. In the verses, it feels urgent, propulsive, and tense, and when the chorus kicks in, it morphs into a massive sing-along anthem a lá Oasis, Kasabian, or The Killers. Or perhaps the more uptempo work of Ian Brown?

The drums pound, the bass throbs, the guitars – which are both twinkling and enchanting and sharp and cutting – intertwine beautifully, and the vocals absolutely lure you in. “Get up, get up, run to me / lit up, lit up, my daydream / I’ll find you out of sight” goes the chorus, and we can absolutely imagine throngs of people doing just that. Getting up and up all over the place – from dingy clubs to festival fields. The future looks bright for these boys.
