Single: My Best Unbeaten Brother – Trying To Take Pictures Of Ghosts

Croydon’s My Best Unbeaten Brother returns with the second single in their quest to release one new song for every month of 2026. For February, it’s “Trying To Take Pictures Of Ghosts”, four minutes of unfiltered indie rock pumped out from the gut.

Grizzly’s write-up for last month’s single likened MBUB’s style to Los Campesinos!, and they double down on that sound on this track. Nothing fancy in the production, and nothing’s needed. The music of the Parker brothers (Ben and Adam), along with Duncan Perry, packs enough of a punch, sounding like a powerful, raw take recorded live to tape.

The title explains the song best: It’s about pining for days and people that only exist in memory. The Dead Kennedys get a few callouts in the track – “The Dead Kennedys now make perfect sense to me/’Cause we’re all living in a rerun of the end of the 70s” – relating to the longing for better days in an era of social ennui, cities either dying or falling to corporate takeovers, and political insecurity tipping the world toward oblivion. The later 2020s do in fact feel like that era.

Take a listen to “Trying To Take Pictures Of Ghosts” below, and follow MBUB on Instagram to keep up with future releases throughout the rest of 2026.
