Gravelord is a song featured on the upcoming sophomore album release VIRTUA. The band is based in the Central Valley in California. This newest single is a venture from raw, a lo-fi rock sound to a more shoegaze sound with hints of dream pop.
Last time I said I could hear the Alex G influence in the sound, and it was still present in this one, though it was definitely drifting towards dreamgaze. Haunting melody that will grow on you with each listen.
There is a lot of mystery surrounding this band, and their online presence is scarce, but that doesn’t make the music any less captivating. Since the short interview I did, this solo project has turned into a band, and the sound has evolved significantly as well.
The little synth twinkles added a nice touch to the wall of shoegaze guitars, and the great melodic shifts made the song so enjoyable. I have kept returning to the song over and over to immerse myself in the sea of sound fully. Some of the guitar riffs were so catchy that I needed to listen to them again.
I can imagine this in my ears as I walk from an evening spent with my friends, warm summer wind touching my skin, and the headphones blasting this music. Maybe it isn’t an ode to hot summer evenings, but I feel like the atmosphere was inviting me to imagine just that. Maybe you hear more haunting images like a nightmare that is scaring you off during hot summer nights. Maybe you don’t imagine anything and just get lost in the music.
