Dawid Bestry’s fourth single of the year takes shape in the form of a glorious shoegaze epic. It cements a name’s slow but steady growth that should be as swiftly rising as the tide.
After nearly a minute of ambient noise and soft vocals, courtesy of Victorrria, ‘soon summer will come’ launches into just over a six-minute cacophony of swelling shoegaze. It never lets up, putting the listener into a trance you can’t snap out of. The single marks Bestry’s first song with vocals and their first track that fully embraces the harsh haze of bands like Drop Nineteens and My Bloody Valentine. Past releases have spanned sub-genres such as dreamy lo-fi, electro-ambient, and doom-gaze; despite executing these sounds through their own singular lens, Bestry sounds most at home in the giant waves present in, ‘soon summer will come’.
Considering his discography, it is not likely Dawid Bestry will be sticking to this same genre of shoegaze-inflected guitar music for their next release – while they may linger here, it should be noted how brilliant Bestry is at it. Dawid Bestry ought to be a name that is doing the rounds. They bring something new to the genre while jumping between sub-genres as if the years in one arena have made them restless. I would encourage everyone to become familiar with Bestry, as I am confident they have some exciting things coming.
