SINGLE: Lonely Inc. – Dream

Laurenz Jandl graces listeners with another release from his new solo project, Lonely Inc. ‘Dreams’, is a deeply reflective and personal song, one that does not waste any time getting to the meat of letting go.

You may be familiar with some of Laurenz Jandl’s prior work: he was the creative force behind the multi-genre band, Polkov; and under the Laurie moniker, he released a handful of material that focussed on a heavier sound. With Lonely Inc., Jandl has pivoted to a lo-fi-tinged, soft rock vibe, bearing a resemblance to the imperfections of Alex G, the Americana of Courtney Barnett, and the dreamy gloom of The Cure. It is an interesting shift, but is one that works well. On, ‘Dreams’, Jandl grapples with letting go as a way to find inner peace. Like all great singer-songwriter tracks, it is bittersweet with a heavy dose of misery – you couldn’t really ask for much more.

For an artist to have moved between projects as many times as Laurenz Jandl has, you would be forgiven for thinking he may be spreading himself a little thin. This is definitely not the case in this instance. It appears that everything this singer-songwriter turns his hand to, he succeeds in deftly. Lonely Inc. may not be the final iteration of Laurenz Jandl’s musical outpourings, but for now, it is more than exciting to see his vision for the project come to life.
